What we have been up to this week.

Okay, so if you're new to Dean and I then you won't know that we never stay in one place for more then a year at a time. I don't know why, but we are forever moving. Sometimes far, sometimes not so far and you have guessed it, we have just moved house, yet again. This time we have moved in with a friend of ours for a number of reasons; one being that he wanted house mates and the other being we want to save to buy a house and have a glorious wedding, so really it is smiles all round. So it has been a very busy week and this is the first chance I have had to even think about blogging and because it has been so busy, I thought I would do a little update of what we have been doing around moving house (which is not a lot really, except sleeping, eating and playing)

Thank goodness the weather has been relatively good whilst we have been moving house, because it really has made it easier to move things from the house to the van and to have Freya play in the garden. We took Freya outside and gave her, her pushchair and babies to push around. She had a whale of a time. She had never really been outside to play properly before. It was amusing watching her walk on the grass for the first time and I really loved watching her investigate too. She was pushing her pram, bending down, touching the grass and then standing up with the most amazed facial expression. I think we need to invest in some out door toys for her this summer.
Also check out the awesome skull and cross bones converse type trainers my best friend bought her, they are just so brilliant. She found them in the sale at Tesco and had to get them for Freya as she knows for my love for babies in skull and cross bone anything. The first thing I ever bought Freya before I knew what I was having as was about 12 weeks pregnant was a grey jumper with a skull on the front.
I had to find you a picture and look, it was the cutest thing ever! And oh my, look at how tiny and little my baby was. All the sobs.

So, apart from moving my friends and I planned to go wedding dress shopping. Eeeee, exciting right? Well, you are wrong! It was the worst shopping expierence I have ever had in my life. People had warned me about how unfriendly and rude these shops could be, but I went with an open mind to expierence myself.
My maid of honour, one of my bridesmaids and a friend picked me up at 10am for us to head into Shrewsburys to start our day of finding the most beautiful wedding gown we could and we rolled up, parked and walked to our first shop, Jessica's of Shrewsbury. As we walked through the door we got greeted by a sharp and rude lady who snapped "can I help you?" and my appointed maid of honour explaines that I was getting married and this was the first wedding dress shop we had been in and to be honest we did not have a clue what we were doing. The woman did not even make contact with us and shortly said "so you don't have an appointment? Go look at that rail over there" shoo'd us into the corner then went back to her phone call. So I said to the girls after a quick glance at the rail, lets go to the next shop because I refused to even step foot in a shop with someone who deals with customers so rudely.
We made our way further up the road and came to Elizabeth's. This shop we had a lot more luck in, we were welcomed by a lady and a man who were relatively up beat. The lady asked what sort of thing I was after and I explained that I wasn't quite sure. She then escorted us into the wedding gown room and showed me a few different styles, although I wasn't allowed to have a look at the dresses myself or see, she picked out four for me to try. As I was about to try the first gown on, she told one of my friends to step out of the room and close the door behind her, which I found very odd. Once I had the first dress on I nervously asked if my friend could come in and see the dress I had on, the lady said "ofcourse". So my friend came back in and I then asked if she could stay to which the lady said "yes that is fine", yep, we were all as confused as you will be now as to why she asked said friend to leave and close the door behind her if you are allowed more than two people in the room whilst viewing and trying gowns. In the end I tried on four dresses, but never got a single smile off the lady who was serving us, she was pleasent but not how you would expect someone to be trying to sell you the most important dress of your life that can cost an arm and a leg. She also didn't ask any questions you would expect them to ask to get an idea of what kind of wedding you're having, for example; when is the wedding? (Seasons are key I think to what material, style and dress you have) Where the wedding will be or what kind of wedding you're having? (A dress for a church wedding in winter would be completely different in every way to a dress you would have at a beach wedding in say Cyprus).
Maybe it's me but I was expecting more excitement, laughter and just general joyfulness. I do not see why these women work in these shops if they have no interest or excitement in helping find the most beautiful gown that would suit that bride and that wedding perfectly.  I am now toying with the idea of buying a few online and hosting my own little mini wedding shop dress party in my house inviting my close girl friends and lady relatives with wine and nibbles because that could be perfect.

I would love to know your ideas or expierences while hunting for your wedding dress. Let me know if you had a perfect gown shop or a failed attempt like me.

  1. What a shame about your wedding dress shopping experience! My sister got hers in a little place in Bristol. I can't remember what it's called but it was three years ago and a relatively new company, but with such stunning, individual pieces. We got the bridesmaid dresses there too, but they were ordered in because it was a separate company: http://twobirdsbridesmaid.co.uk/ we had the navy blue ones and they were just so beautiful.
Freya is looking gorgeous! It's crazy how much she has changed in a year :) Loving this blog Vix :)

    1. I know, it was awful but I am hoping next time we venture into one of these shops we will get a warmer welcome and a more helpful/friendlier member of staff.
Thank you! I know, it is going so so so quick. Xxx
